What's shakin': Launch week!

From launch week hype to bitcoin reaching new all-time highs, the second quarter of 2025 was packed with major wins. 

We leveled up the app, crossed into 1.5 million shaker territory (!!), and took a bold step forward for crypto in Canada by becoming a member of Payments Canada.

Shakepay is growing fast — but we’re still building for one thing: Helping Canadians build wealth in bitcoin, simply and securely. 

Let’s take a look at the wins that made this quarter one for the Shakepay history books!

🇨🇦 1.5M Canadians strong

First things first: Wow!

When we started Shakepay in 2015, the original goal was to create something so easy that our CEO’s mom could use it. And spoiler alert — she does. 

But now, so do over 1.5 million other Canadians. Guess we weren’t the only ones who thought buying bitcoin should be that easy.

A new first: Launch week!

We kicked off Q3 with launch week,: Four launches in four days, showcasing everything we built in Q2, with new additions designed to make Shakepay faster, smarter, and more powerful for you. 

Here’s a quick recap of what all got shipped that week (shout out to our coffee pots for keeping that momentum going):

• USD and USDC transfers: You can now buy, sell, and earn 3% APY interest on USD, directly in your Shakepay account! Plus: USDC transfers are here, too! Your funds are automatically converted between USD and USDC for simple, on chain transactions.
• New exchange pairs: You can now swap between BTC, ETH, USD, and CAD — directly on Shakepay! This upgrade gives you more choice, more control, and more efficiency.
• Address book: Our new security feature lets you add trusted addresses for quick and easy transfers. Plus, enforcing your address book allows you to limit crypto withdrawals only to the addresses you've added for extra security.
• Interac request: A faster, easier way to top up your Shakepay balance, right from the app. No more copy-pasting or switching between apps. Simply pick your amount, choose your bank, and approve the request.

Shakepay joins Payments Canada

In April, we announced another big win: Shakepay became a member of Payments Canada! This move gives us a seat at the table shaping the future of Canada’s payment ecosystem. 

That means: we’re not just building around the system anymore — we’re stepping inside it to help shape meaningful change.

Why does this matter? Because being at the table lets us shape how money moves in Canada. Faster, fairer, more transparent systems. Better access for Canadians. And a future where Bitcoin has a real shot at playing alongside traditional finance.

This milestone aligns with our long-term vision: to modernize access to sound money and help Canada lead the global digital asset economy.
